Deoksugung Palace, Seoul

Team,

Today I was fortunate enough to visit Deoksugung Palace in Seoul.   I must say I quite liked the place.   The old style architecture was really appealing and the place had a real genuine sense of peace and quiet about it.

Deoksugung Palace is located almost directly alongside City Hall in Seoul, so all you need to do is get off at City Hall station ( lines 1,2, and 3 ) and just head out the City Hall exit, and you will see it.

Deoksugung Palace was firstr built in the late 1400s as a residence for King Wolsan.   It became somewhat of a royal palace in 1592, after King Seonjo took up residence there during the Japanese invasion of Korea, and it received its first name change back in 1607 when King Gwanghaegun gave it the name Gyeongungung.

The Palace also saw a coronation in 1623, when the coronation of King Injo took place there.  It was also named Seogung until 1897

In 1897, King Gojong declared that it would be from the Palace that the " Great Han Empire " would come to fruition, and had the Palace renamed Gyeongungung for a second time.

A final name change to Deoksugung took place in 1907 under the reign of King Sojong.

You can see lots of pics and all about the Palace here team
